St. Paul's Academy

Academics

Lower School (Grades K - 5)

St. Paul's Academy offers a rich and challenging educational environment for all students. Through a rigorous and broad-based approach to instruction, our curriculum ensures mastery of essential skills. The core subjects of language arts (reading, writing, speaking), math, science, and social studies are enriched by work in computers, art, music, foreign language (Spanish) and physical education. Frequent field trips to museums, performances, and nature preserves correlate with the curriculum. Homework is assigned as needed during the week to support classroom activities.

The school seeks to develop self-discipline in every student. Students are taught to be responsible for their own actions. School-wide rules are simple and few in number. The school's philosophy is to reward appropriate student behavior as often as possible and give fair, consistent disciplinary action when necessary. Uniforms are worn by all students.

Emphasis on community service is also an important part of the St. Paul's philosophy. Through the Chapel Guild's Love Thy Neighbor Program, each class of students participates in projects within the neighborhood, which they serve in various ways throughout the year. The students collect clothing and food for the Interfaith Coalition, work with the residents of Woodway Retirement Center, and provide clothing items for Hope House. A significant part of the Chapel program involves taking lessons learned in Chapel and translating them into tangible good works throughout the community.
